As the first half of major league tournaments all over the globe has been exhausted and judged, the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational will begin on the 29th of April with massive hungry league fans waiting ferociously for their idols to collide for glory and gold in the 2nd quarter of the storied year of League of Legends.
What clearly stands out in these types of ultra-hyped events is the ever-glaring spirit of the cheering fans who annually get a sold-out moment in every stadium that the Mid-Season Invitational has ever set foot on. When the big stage has already been fully booked in an extreme fashion, expect that tons of League fans will manage to find a way just to watch the precious games within the stadium’s skirts.
Are we now talking about a major sport here? It seems like it, but trust me, it is not. Does the game require physical skill and exertion? Of course, it requires eye-to-hand coordination to showcase the player’s reflexes in any adrenaline situation virtually. Is it taken competitively and is it capable of achieving a result? Hell yeah, just look at the tournaments deemed as premium being held north, south, east and west, and in any opportune time in the known globe. Is it governed by a set of rules or mechanics? It is a no brainer. But ultimately, is it really a sport? No, not yet. The never-ending rebuttals of whether it’s a sport or not is still in its peak, unfortunately. Just to mention how big the game is, I’ll leave this food for thought here: Premier clubs in football and premier basketball teams have already invested staggering amounts on several League of Legends professional team.
